2005 Season

The inugural season in 2005 was intended to introduce the concept of jazz repertory performance to Ottawa. The featured ensemble was a nonet using the famous Birth of the Cool instrumentation - six horns comprised of treble and bass pairs of brass (trumpet and trombone), reeds (alto and baritone saxophones) and conical brass (French horn and tuba), supported by a three-piece rhythm section.

The announcement of The Magic of Miles Davis in August 2004 met with a great response that led to a sell-out one month before the performance. Those fortunate enough to attend this concert learned about the music of three seminal bands led by Miles Davis through the performance of the music as well as the background detailed in extensively researched programme notes.

The high praise earned from that inaugural concert led to an invitation to perform the Birth of the Cool at the 25th Ottawa International Jazz Festival. This concert earned high praise and without programme notes, introduced the audience to Adrian Cho's highly informative and personable style of presenting the music.
