In our third full season we continue to push the envelope with twelve exciting and innovative performances.

Concert in the Park - The Billings Estate Museum has invited us to return for another concert and this time we'll present the music of the 1930s. We'll
perform the music and the dancers from Swing Dynamite will showcase the swing dances of the era. This performance will culminate a full day of musical entertainment at the Billings Estate featuring
many different artists and a diversity of musical styles.

Garden Party - The National Capital Commission has invited us back for two days of FREE CONCERTS at Mackenzie King Estate.
We'll be accompanied by Swing Dynamite who will both perform AND give free swing dance lessons. This is sure to be a great day for the family.

Four Fabulous Concerts
|
Ellington: From Cotton Club to Concert Hall will chronicle Duke Ellington's storied musical career with selections from 1927 to 1970
including music written for the Cotton Club, concert halls, cathedrals and the silver screen. The IJO's 16-piece repertory orchestra will perform seminal Ellington works including
Diminuendo and Crescendo in Blue, Black and Tan Fantasy, Rhapsody in Blue, Cotton Tail, and Theme from "The Asphalt Jungle" along with many other rarely
heard works.

The When Joni Met Mingus is a tribute to the careers of vocalist, Joni Mitchell and bassist, Charles Mingus. 2009 is the 30th anniversary
of their collaboration, Mingus, which was released after the bassist passed away. A unique chamber orchestra will perform arrangements of Mitchell and Mingus' music
created specially for this concert. Featuring special guest vocalist, Christine Fagan.

It's a Whose Solo Is It This Time? is the sequel to the hugely successful Whose Solo Is It Anyway?
which earned raved reviews. Don't miss the new and improved sequel featuring additional guest artists to be announced.

The Ellington: The Sacred Concerts The IJO performs selections from the three sacred concerts hailed by Ellington as
“the most important thing I've ever done or am ever likely to do.” Incorporating elements of classical, jazz and gospel music, this season finale will bring
together almost fifty artists for an Ottawa premiere that should not be missed. Featuring special guests Doreen Taylor-Claxton (soprano),
Marcus Nance (bass-baritone) from Toronto and Elise Letourneau (alto) who will also conduct the Capital Vox jazz choir.

Jazz Vespers
Fifth Sunday vespers services at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church featuring small group ensembles of IJO musicians with guest vocalists.
These services are always a moving experience and feature music by both jazz composers such as Duke Ellington, Charles Mingus and John Coltrane, as well as jazz arrangements of
spirituals and sacred music.
Let's Dance!
The IJO plays authentic music from the 1920s to the 1940s, recreating the sounds of Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, Jelly Roll Morton, Jimmie Lunceford, King Oliver,
Fletcher Henderson and so many more.

Swing Explosion Gala is the culmination of a three-day swing dance festival. This is the premiere swing dance of the year and will feature a
13-piece IJO ensemble performing all the hottest swing dance tunes. Get your dancing shoes on because the band promises to be HOT, HOT, HOT!

The Canadian Shag Dance Championships are the highlight of Shag Explosion, a three-day extravaganza devoted to the Collegiate Shag style of swing dancing.
A 13-piece IJO ensemble will perform all the hottest swing dance tunes.
